Rest in peace

SCRIPTURE: Luke 2:25-32
“Now let me, your servant, go in peace.” (Luke 2:29)
St. Augustine once said, ‘Our hearts find no rest until they rest in God!’
Like Simeon, we are rest-less until we experience God’s love through Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is at work in us too, prompting us to look for God and Jesus.
Some people seek, others look elsewhere – but they do not find what they’re looking for.
Only God through Jesus can put the heart at rest, can give us deep down security and peace.
Jesus is for all people – Jews, non Jews, Christians, Muslims, Atheists… He is king over all!
He comes towards us, and the Spirit prompts us towards Him, He is what our heart is looking for.
And when we finally experience God’s love through Jesus, we find deep down peace.
We can R.I.P. while we live, and we can R.I.P. when we die.
For not only are we holding Jesus in our hearts, He is holding us in His!

What is your only comfort in life and death? That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. (Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 1, QA 1)

Are you seeking Jesus, are you holding Jesus, are you R.I.P.?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I want to experience this peace deep down inside, a peace that assures me that – whether I live or die – I am secure in Your love.

  1. Observations/Application
A righteous and devout man was Simeon. What is said about me? And the Spirit was upon him. He was Spirit-filled. He was Sprit lead. What about me? Am I Spirit lead in the daily affairs of my life?

Simeon saw through the eyes of Jesus so to speak for he saw and knew he saw the Saviour of the world. His praises were prophetic because he knew heart, soul and mind that His Redeemer lives.

As I live this day – a Lord’s day – do I see Jesus? He in control. I just need to focus on Him in all I do and say. Keep my eyes on Jesus.

    Prayer
Help me this day Lord to live out of Your Word. and may others see You living in me so that I am a living letter.

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

Oh soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness to see
There’s a light for a look at the Savior
And life more abuntant and free

His words shall not fail you, He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
    His perfect salvation to tell

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
