SCRIPTURE: Psalm 58
Right now big news in our country is the Senate scandal: who is lying, who is telling the truth?
Sometimes you get the feeling that most politicians are crooked – “from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies.”
David is reflecting on corrupt, cruel, oppressive and unjust leaders, and what will happen to them.
I am not saying that this Psalm applies to our Prime Minister, or some Senators, or some politicians.
I am saying that to some extent it applies to all of us, we all have our shady moments and sides.
God cannot allow injustice or deception or corruption to remain, it will vanish like water, melt away like the slug, never see the sun, be swept away by the flame.
And sadly, anyone who clings to these things will suffer the same consequences.
Therefore instead of thinking only about how this Psalm may apply to others, look within yourself.
Where are you speaking unjustly, where am I telling lies, where are you using words to mislead others, where am I doing things that hurt others?
One day God will establish goodness and justice and integrity and mercy – will I be clinging to these things too, will they be what I have been striving for too?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I can try to minimize my lies, but they are still lies. I can try to ignore my unjust thoughts and words, but they are still unjust. Help me to hate injustice and deception of all kinds, and to join You in eliminating them… starting in me.

Observations/Application
Are the rulers people of integrity? Are their hearts hearts of service? They go heir own way. They seem to be king of the castle hurting and hurling all those who come in their way.
With all the injustice, hurts, turmoil, death and destruction in the world then and even today, God is the Victor yet and He will have the final say. It is He who judges the world and also me and my actions. May my actions be right and just and true serving You in all I say and do. May others see Christ Jesus living in me as I live this day for You. Make me a channel of Your peace this day.

Help me this day and always Lord, to live for You.
Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
