Journal Entry #55

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 55
This is more like a Journal entry than a song.
David is enduring the bitterness of betrayal, and He is venting with God.
There is so much turmoil going on in his head and heart, his pen and prayer becomes his outlet.
I have had Journal entries that have had similar raw, emotional venting.
And I have used these words as well, “I wish I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away and be at rest. I would escape to a place far away” (vv.6-7).
I have never been betrayed like this, but I do share with David his hope in the Lord: “Turn your worries over to the Lord. He will keep you going. He will never let godly people fall.”
This is what motivates my Journaling, I am expressing my heart to the Lord, and trusting in Him.
Too often we allow the worries to churn in our hearts and minds, but we don’t release them.
They hold power over us when we bottle them in, they overwhelm and crush our hope and joy.
Today’s reading encourages me to renew my daily Journaling (I’ve let it slip for the last few weeks), and to express everything that is in my heart – the good, the bad, the ugly – to give it over to God and trust Him to help me.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I’ve missed my Journaling time with You. Help me bring it back, not as a duty or out of guilt, but for the joy that it is, and for the blessing of trusting in You through it!

  1. Observations/Application
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    Find shelter in His presence. Fly away for it is His wind that gives me lift. To the desert for a dove? Fly into is presence. Alone with the Lord. Alone in His presence. The comfort, the healing arm of the Comforter.. Come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest were His words. Lord I come must be my words.

    The Lord God saves. Throughout the day I must come into His presence. Although I am in His world, I still need to actively take time to talk with Him throughout the day. Start the day with Him. End the day with Him. Spend time in prayer during the day with Him. Walk and talk daily with my God as I live each day in His presence for He is the wind beneath my wings. He lifts me up at all times. Trust and obey for there is no other way than to cast your cares upon the Lord. Leave it all at the cross of Jesus.

    Prayer
    When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
    And with all who will trust and obey.

    Refrain

    Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
    To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

    Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
    Can abide while we trust and obey.

    Refrain

    Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
    But is blessed if we trust and obey.

    Refrain

    But we never can prove the delights of His love
    Until all on the altar we lay;
    For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust and obey.

    Refrain

    Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
    What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.
