Honest with God

June 23, 2013
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 39
OBSERVATIONS/APPLICATION
The psalmist is getting old, and is overwhelmed by the prospect of death.
He is afraid to die, in part because he is filled with honest shame and regret.
Is God punishing him, is his suffering the wages for his sin?
Life is short; it doesn’t seem that way when we’re young, but more so as we get older.
People around us are dying, our bodies don’t work add well as they used to.
If I knew that today was my last day alive, how would I be…
This psalm speaks to the real struggle we all face as we consider the brevity of life.
It is encouraging to me that God includes this kind of honesty in the bible.
I sense the Lord saying to me that I should honestly voice my own struggles, that He is big enough to take it.
Don’t be silent, don’t keep it bottled up inside, the pain will only grow worse.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I struggle with doubts, with fears, with sinful desire, with pride. But You know that. Help me not to hide it from You, but to honestly share with You my struggle.
