Everyone cries out, “Glory!”

April 14, 2013
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 29
OBSERVATIONS
Why should the angels, and everyone (and everything) on earth praise God?
Because He is so awesomely great and powerful.
We know a person by what they say and do. Since we cannot see God, we can only ‘hear’ God, ie God speaks through words and actions. We do not see God Himself, but we sense and experience God through what He says and does. This is God’s Word (or self-revelation). It was this Word that spoke creation into existence (Genesis 1). It was this Word that became flesh (Jesus, John 1).
And according to the psalmist it is this Word that causes the wind and the storm to blow across the land, breaking trees, shaking forests, stirring the sky with lightning, whipping the desert into a frenzy. The hurricane is an expression of God’s awesomely powerful Word. That same Word (through Jesus) can also calm the storm: They were amazed and full of fear. They asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him.” (Luke 8:25).
Everyone should cry out glory when they experience the powerful Voice of God in creation and in Jesus!
We should respect and reference God for His awesome greatness, but we should not cower in fear, for our awesomely powerful God loves us and blesses us and stops down to us through Jesus’ top help us. Yes, the Lord on his throne rules over the flood, the Lord rules from his throne as King forever… But, the Lord gives strength to his people, the Lord blesses his people with peace.
What do you notice in this passage?
APPLICATION
Do I sense God in nature? Do I see Jesus (the Word made flesh) as the powerful Voice of God Who reigns over all AND blesses all?
Paul under said that everything in creation found its source and identity in Jesus: Christ is the exact likeness of God, who can’t be seen. He is first, and he is over all of creation. All things were created by him. He created everything in heaven and on earth. He created everything that can be seen and everything that can’t be seen. He created kings, powers, rulers and authorities. Everything was created by him and for him. Before anything was created, he was already there. He holds everything together.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you? (Colossians 1:15-17)

We can’t see God, but qr do experience God’s self-revelation through the Word (Voice) of God, both in creation and in Jesus.
When we think of God, and when we think of Jesus, our response should be the same: The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is majestic. Everyone cries out, “Glory!”
PRAYER
Lord, You are awesomely great and awesomely powerful. I join with the angels and all creation in crying out, ”Glory!!!!!”

  1. Observations:
Glorify the name of the Lord – those in heaven and those on earth. Great is our God and greatly to be praised. All of creation praises Him = the waters, the storms, the trees, the desert, the ALL – All of creation is His and speaks – shouts – bellows – the greatness of our God. All happenings in creations – the storms, the the floods, the quakes, tell of His mighty power. That God is our God and He gives His people strength and peace. Praise Him!

    Applications:
Where will I se God today? I need to look around and all within me needs to cry ‘Holy.’ Holy is the Lord God Almighty because He speaks to me everywhere if only I have eyes that see and ears that hear. He is everywhere – in the plants growing outside my front door, in the barren trees until the rains come, in the blooming flowing plants in all the dryness which He makes a possibility, in the quietness of the night – my God is in control and He gives His people the power to see and to hear and all I need to do is glorify Him by what I say and do each day. As He brings power and glory to His creation I must respond by Glory to the Lord of lords and the King of kings.

    Prayer:
All within me must say Glory to the King!

    Father, we love You
    We worship and adore You
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth

    Chorus:
    Glorify Thy Name
    Glorify Thy Name
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth

    Verse 2:
    Jesus, we love You
    We worship and adore You
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth

    Verse 3:
    Spirit, we love You
    We worship and adore You
Glorify Thy Name in all the earth
