SCRIPTURE: Revelation 1:1-8
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
This is a message from our reigning monarch in the midst of a war. Think of when the queen of the Netherlands was in England during WW2, and sent messages by radio to inspire and encourage those that remained under the Nazi occupation. Even though it was illegal to listen, the people eagerly waited for these messages, inspiring them to hang on, and trust that one day evil would be overcome and they would be free.
This is a message for us in the midst of a cosmic, spiritual battle, where evil seems to have the upper hand. But we serve the One Who is, Who was and Who is to come, the beginning (Alpha) and the end (Omega), who has defeated death and rules over all other authorities. He will come, and everyone will see Him and bow down to Him. This is sure to be, guaranteed!
There is blessing for me, and for everyone else who reads and lives according to this message, i.e. as if Jesus is in control! Do I live like this? Do I compromise my faith in order to succeed in this world, or do I stand by my faith, even if it puts me at odds with this world?
PRAYER:
Lord, remind me again as Your follower that doing Your will, living like You, even if it seems weak, is the best way to live, and one day will be vindicated. Forgive me for trying to gain happiness and success in a worldly way. Amen.
Revelation 1:1-8
The Revealing of Jesus
In the island prison of Patmos Jesus Christ is revealed to John not in the humility of God made flesh but in his exultaton. One of the reasons boys and young men enjoy this book of the bible is the imagery of Christ in his Blazing glory, Lord over his church and the time he takes back what belongs to him. It has all the tell tale signs of an epic movie.
The time is near. This is the second to last chapter of God’s plan for this earth. This is the season, the era when these events of God’s redemptive history is imminent. Christ’s coming may be the next event but we do no not know the timing of His return.
One of the most exciting parts of this opening is our inclusion. We are heirs to this kingdom and Christ is the preeminent Firstborn, the rightful heir. We share in His glory with the everlasting, eternal and almighty God. Praise be to the King!
