  1. Observations:
    How then do I live?
The reading started with the relationships in the family.
The spoils of the war – the ban – were shared, including the Lord’s share – to the priest. Do this and live. Follow the word of the Lord.
And yet, some did not want to cross over into the land promised but stay in the land on the east side. The grass was not greener on the other side for them.
Once again the Lord gave the instructions how to take the land – do the ban because if you fail to do, then you will have trouble in the land. I the Lord will see to do that.
God’s ways for the Levites and their provisions, or for the people were very specific. This is the way you shall live. God continues to show His plan for their lives so that they may live.

    Applications:
Have Thine own way Lord? or Have my own way Lord? All too often we are like Gadites and Reubenites – working God’s way into our way – trying to make God our god – manipulating Him into our desires and not His.
How often does the Lord need to speak before I hear? To hear is to do. All to often I go my own way as the people of Israel did. Open my eyes Lord and open my ears so that I may both see You and hear You daily to do Your will for my life.
God did not just say, Love Me, but showed very specific ways how the people in their daily lives can love Him by doing His will in their daily lives. God’s ways gives peace and not discord. God’s way brings joyful living and not persecution and sickness. But do we listen? Sin pervades – as Adam made his choice, so too the people today including me made our choice and all too often we think only of ourselves. God’s regulations are for life – for this life and the next. And I choose His way.

    Prayer:
Lead me and guide me this day Lord by Your Spirit to do Your will.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit ’till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.
