the joy of His presence

February 17, 2013
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 21
OBSERVATIONS
This psalm applies first of all to David, king of Israel, secondly to Jesus, the Son of David (promised Messiah), and third to all of us as God’s children and appointed rulers over creation. The basic point is that when we are centered in God and His will, we will experience the joy and blessing of God’s kingdom creation.
In this sin-messed, broken world, that original promise remains, it is the goal for which we are aiming, and the goal which Jesus has made possible through His life, death, resurrection and ascension.
As we center ourselves in God and His will, we are aligning ourselves with our true identity and purpose, and therefore we are moving closer to the love, joy, peace we were created for, that we desperately long for.
What do you notice in this passage?
APPLICATION
I am encouraged by the fact that though David was not perfect, in fact he was guilty of serious sin, yet God honored His humble heart, and ”placed a crown of pure gold on his head.” (Psalm 21:3). I see in Jesus the pattern of godliness, but I see in David the possibility of grace, because I know that I am not centered in God on His will.
But by His grace, I’m going in the right direction.
The real blessing through it all is not health or wealth or ease or power, the real blessing no matter what happens is the joy of His presence (v.6).
Psalm 21:6 — Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.
Knowing God is with me anchors me through all my storms and struggles; life in this sin-messed, broken world is not easy, but God gives me the assurance that He will never leave me or forsake me until everything is accomplished, His kingdom comes and I experience this love and joy and peace for ever.
“Strength for today, bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine with ten thousand beside, great is Your faithfulness Lord to me!”
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I am not a king like You, yet with Your help I am becoming a king like You. Thank You for the joy of Your presence along the way.

  1. Observations:
The victory belongs to the Lord!
The one request is – to serve the Lord all the days of my life. The Lord did show His presence by His power for the Lord God is his strength. The king is not to trust in horses or chariots – to boast about them but to trust in the Lord His God.
It is the Lord God Who gives the victory. It is the Lord God who goes before us. It is the Lord God Who blazes the path we need to travel, clearing the Way so that He can succeed.
Praise the Lord Oh my soul for He is good. Sing His praises forevermore.

    Applications:
Help me also be unshaken by Your unfailing love as I continue to travel on my ‘pilgrim’s progress’ . Help me to see Your will for my life. May I always place my trust in You as I continue to travel in unfamiliar territory. Help me daily to do Your will. Help me daily to see Your presence. Help me daily to share Your presence to all those around me so that they too experience the joy of the Lord Who is my Guardian and Guide. Continue to lead me and guide me in the Way I should go as I bring this chapter of my life to a close. The next chapter is serving You . . . where?
I trust You Oh Lord my God and I will continually sing and praise Your name. May I continually break forth in song – for what You have done for me and my household. The strength of the Lord is my song!

    Prayer:
Oh God You are my God and ever will I praise You for You are my Strength and my Song. Continue to lead and guide me in the Way I should go since I have not been this way before. The way ahead is only a possibility and reality with You as my Guide.

Oh God, You are my God
And I will ever praise You
Oh God, You are my God
And I will ever praise You
I will seek You in the morning
And I will learn to walk in Your ways
And step by step You’ll lead me
And I will follow You all of my days
    {Repeat}
And step by step You’ll lead me
And I will follow You all of my days
