  1. Observations:
    The uncleanness of the people, even the priests, was shown through the practices of the priests. A foreshadowing of Christ is also here as shown by the scapegoat for the people The ritual was to be done each year for the sins of the people.
    Obey the law and you will live. Disobey, and you will be cut off.
    Obey the laws of God and do not do what the people around you do. Obey and live by them.
    The laws of the Lord were for life.
    Many commands were given for daily living – God’s Words are for life – and very practical in daily living.
    Do this – follow my commands and live – for it is the Lord God you are serving Who makes you holy. God’s people have been set apart.

    Application:
    God’s commands are for life yesterday and today. Do this and live, that’s what the Master said. Live and do this. There is no other way. Trust and obey. Be separate. You are Mine.
    So I question myself – how am I separate from the world following the way of the Lord? I have been made clean by His blood and need to live a life of holy/wholey service to Him in all I say and do. I have His Word and I must live the deed, Heart and head and hands – all for Jesus.

    Prayer:
    Lord, help me each day anew to live for You in all I do and say.

    All for Jesus, all for Jesus!
    All my being’s ransomed powers:
    All my thoughts and words and doings,
    All my days and all my hours.
    Refrain

    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my days and all my hours;
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my days and all my hours.

    Let my hands perform His bidding,
    Let my feet run in His ways;
    Let my eyes see Jesus only,
    Let my lips speak forth His praise.

    Refrain

    Worldlings prize their gems of beauty,
    Cling to gilded toys of dust,
    Boast of wealth and fame and pleasure;
    Only Jesus will I trust.

    Refrain

    Since my eyes were fixed on Jesus,
    I’ve lost sight of all beside;
    So enchained my spirit’s vision,
    Looking at the Crucified.

    Refrain

    Oh, what wonder! how amazing!
    Jesus, glorious King of kings,
    Deigns to call me His belovèd,
    Lets me rest beneath His wings.

  2. Today is Robbie Burns day. For some of the world, this is a big deal. For others the response is Robbie who?? (Right Norm?).

    On another note, a day of atonement was to be done once a year, a ritual where the Israelites where to take their sins, and place them on a scapegoat, to be sent out into the wilderness. This symbolism points to Jesus, our scapegoat who takes our sins. Is our day of atonement Easter? It might be nice to have more active remembrance of the Jewish feasts, and practices in our church year. We don’t really even talk about the annual day of atonement.

    This is where we see a lot of the laws that were set out for the people. I was reading a book on the history of civilization, and this was not the first law set out for society. This law did contain rules that the Israelites where not uses to. This was not how the rest of society lived. The Mosaic law also caused a fairness to come over the people that is not available today. Imagine the justice of leveling the playing field every 50 years (the year of jubilee) or imagine not planting any crops every 7 years. Of course there are similarities in this law to those around (an eye for an eye is not original here)

    I pray that I can learn from the practices of the early Israelites, and that I can see Him to whom this part of scripture points to.
