Oct 21 — Daniel 11:20-35

SCRIPTURE: Daniel 11:20-35

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
In the midst of the intrigue of kings, the people of the old covenant will face violent persecution. The temple will be profaned and those who forsake the covenant will be honoured – while those who do not will suffer. Their suffering will lead some insincere believers to support them (v.34). This is a time of testing, and it is pretty brutal. Its times like these that lead many people to question God’s power and purpose. How can God allow this kind of suffering for His loyal followers? The vision suggests that it has to do with refining, purifying (v.35). This is similar to what Peter says (1 Peter 1:3-9).

I must admit, I do not like to suffer. The thought of being purified by fire does not appeal to me. I think people sing the song “Refiner’s Fire” too easily. But, and here is where trust comes in, I have to accept that God know what He is doing.

PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for doubting You, but You do know how hard it is for us, and how weak we are. All around the world people are suffering. May they be inspired by this vision, that Your purpose and power will prevail! Amen.
