SCRIPTURE: Daniel 6:17-28
OBSERVATION:
Not even the king’s love for Daniel could get him to change his decree.
Daniel is said to be saved by God because he was innocent.
Those who accused Daniel, as well as their wives and children, are thrown to the lions, and they are not so lucky.
The king recognizes that the God of Israel is the living God Who rules forever, all through Daniel’s “witness” while in exile.
APPLICATION:
God doesn’t save everyone who is innocent, does He? How many innocent people have been mauled by “lions” (think of WW2 and concentration camps).
What is the lesson? Entrust yourself to the Lord, and He MAY rescue you!?!
It is simplistic to say that God saves everyone who has integrity, humility and gratitude (like Daniel).
The lesson is, “entrust yourself to God; no guarantees that you will not suffer or die, but He will work in/through you for His glory and for your ultimate victory.”
It is dangerous to read this story as a promise of health and wealth, as some Christians do.
PRAYER:
Lord, when I surrender myself to You, the only guarantees are that whatever suffering I do go through will not ultimately defeat me, and that whatever happens, it will be for Your good purpose! Am I satisfied with that? Amen.
Daniel was an old man when he was placed in the lion’s den – about 80. Daniel continue as always to walk the talk. A stone was placed over the den and sealed by the king himself should Daniel’s enemies try to kill him. Daniel was kept perfectly safe because he believed in his God. All those who believe in God as the Source of their being, as their Refuge in life will always find their God to protect them and give them all what they need to overcome. God’s people need to walk in the fear of His name from day to day. In His power His kingdom will come. He will overcome. He is our life in this life and the next.
Help me Lord to be like a Daniel and walk always in Your light. And when I am afraid, I know that You are always right there beside me. Help me daily to live for Jesus. Help me to be a doer of what I know in my heart. Help me to be faithful in all I say and do.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
When I feel afraid,
And think Ive lost my way.
Still, youre there right beside me.
Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near;
Please be near me to the end
