SCRIPTURE: Daniel 5:17-31
OBSERVATION:
Daniel reminds the king that the God of Israel is not just a local god, a statue made of silver or gold, but He is the God of everything and everyone. Nebuchadnezzar was a “sovereign” king, but only because God put him there; God also brought him down. Daniel says that Belshazzar should have learned from Nebuchadnezzar’s example… but he didn’t. There God, having measured and weighed his heart and life, brings an end to his rule and divides his kingdom.
APPLICATION:
God is not a local god, tied to the church, tied to our region, our people. Right now, He is at work among the nations – the muslims, buddhists, atheists, communists, animists, sikhs and hindus. Over everyone, everywhere. And each of us is expected to learn from the circumstances of those around us. God’s message is sent to everyone, but will they (we) pay attention? What message is God trying to communicate to us, and we are not getting it?
PRAYER:
Lord, open my eyes to read Your messages all around me. Forgive me for not paying attention, and for being so full of myself I do not see You, or others. Amen.
