Aug 24 — Psalm 5:1-12

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 5:1-12

OBSERVATION:
David is going through a tough time. He is pleading for the Lord to help him. In this time of waiting, he reminds himself Who the Lord is, what He is like, and that He can be trusted. The Lord will not tolerate wickedness forever, and those who cling to Him and follow Him can be assured that one day He will set things right.

APPLICATION:
David’s confidence challenges and encourages me. I too need to remind myself Who the Lord is, and that He is reliable… instead of focusing on how big or terrible my problems are. I like v.3, where David simply lays his requests before the Lord, then waits in expectation. To go into each day with anticipation rather than fear or dread.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me this kind of a heart, one reminds itself of Who You are, and trusts in You, no matter what. Help me to expect that You will answer this prayer! Amen.

  1. In his difficulties, David knew the Source of renewal. He prayed. In the morning, he prayed. As he met the challenges of the day he could do so in the power of His God because he had shared all things with Him. David comes into His presence with reverence and expectation. The Lord His God will lesd him in the paths of righteousness. Tje Lord his God is his Surety, his Protection, his Refuge, his Shield.

    As I enter this day Lord, teach me to pray, not only for myself, but also for others. Guide Your people this day as they meet their challenges in their daily living for Jesus in His kingdom – the kingdom of God which is everywhere.

    In doubt and temptation I rest, Lord, in Thee;
    My hand is in Thy hand, Thou carest for me;
    My soul with Thy counsel through life Thou wilt guide,
    And afterward make me in glory abide.

    Refrain

    My God, I will extol Thee
    And ever bless Thy Name;
    Each day will I give thanks to Thee
    And all Thy praise proclaim.
