SCRIPTURE: Psalm 89
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. [Psalm 89:9]
The psalmist affirms God’s power over all creation, and also the power of the sea.
He then describe how David’s heir (the messiah) will also have this power assigned to Him.
I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. [Psalm 89:25]
This messiah will never lose His position… so why is Israel falling apart, and David’s throne a shambles?
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm… They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” [Mark 4:39,41]
Indeed, who is this?
Listen to their conclusion: Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” [Matthew 14:33]
The Son of God, the specially anointed heir of David that can uniquely call God His Father.
He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.’ And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. [Psalm 89:26-27]
Messianic hopes were high when Jesus came because like the psalmist they were desperately waiting fir God to finally fulfill His promise regarding David’s throne.
But since the fall of Jerusalem in 586BC, they were waiting and waiting and waiting.
Waiting for the consolation of Israel and the redemption of Jerusalem [Luke 2:25-38].
Are you waiting and waiting and waiting?
Are you clinging to a promise of God, and wondering ‘how long’ it will take?
Be assured, God has started – the messiah has come – and He will finish it.
He Who calls God Father, Who holds authority over the wind and storms of life, is with you and will be to the very end!
Jesus is that messiah!
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” [Matthew 28:18-20]
PRAYER:
Lord, You are the answer to God’s promise, and to my prayer. Help me to trust You, and wait for You, knowing that You are with me to the very end.
I will sing of God’ love forever. Why? Because of all that which He has done for me. And see His faithfulness in the creation? Tell of God’s greatness, forever.
See His presence in His Creation? Happy are those who walk in Him. This is the day that the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad. Celebrate God’s glory and power and strength for He is your/my power and strength.
Yet if my people, my family go their own way and fail to keep my covenant, I will punish them with a rod. A rod and not a sword. Correction and not elimination. PTL. His promise stands sure. He always will be our Father and will be there for His children. But our sin gets in the way of His love for us. Open our eyes Lord that we may see You. Open our ears Lord that we may hear Your. Work mightily in our hearts Lord – molding me – for your purposes and not my selfish desires. Help me this day to praise You. Help me to praise You always and forever and ever. You have promised to be with Your family. Help me to live for You in all I do and say.
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!
