May 17 — Ephesians 3:1-13

SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 3:1-13

OBSERVATIONS

1. (vv.1-6) Jesus Christ is the key to the mystery of God’s plan, how all people are reconciled to God through Jesus, whether Jewish or not, and together in Him become one people.
APPLICATION: In a culture divided by class and race and gender, this message is especially good news (i.e. “gospel”) for those who are excluded or mistreated.

2. (vv.7-11) The purpose of the church is to declare this message of good news to all the world, to all the powers that be, so that everyone can receive God’s amazing grace and be restored to His family.
APPLICATION: Our purpose is not to separate, but to gather, to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). My purpose is to let everyone know this good news!

3. (v.12) Most religions put barriers between the people and God (including historic Christianity) but the good news is that through trusting in Jesus we may approach God boldly, with freedom and confidence.
APPLICATION: Where are we putting up barriers, how am I communicating the scandalous grace of God, especially to unworthy sinners? Do I make it hard for people to come to God, harder than it should be?

PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for opening the way for me to come to You in freedom and confidence, despite my sinful attitudes and behaviours. Help me to see others as just like me, in need of Your mercy, in need of Your welcome. Amen.
