the One!

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 1
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. [Hebrews 1:1-2]
God communicates in a variety of ways, but His ultimate revelation [Word, John 1:1] is through Jesus.
Jesus is the fullest expression of the heart and mind of God – the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being [Hebrews 1:3]
The eternal Word of God comes into the world as a human, the perfect image and reflection of God, to restore the position of the original image bearer, Adam.
Just as Adam was to rule over all creation, now Jesus is in that position
But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. [Hebrews 1:8]

The Jews were eagerly expecting the messiah, the ultimate son of David that would fully and finally establish God’s kingdom on earth.
The author of Hebrews points to promises and predictions related to David or David’s kingdom as referring to the promised messiah.
The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.” [John 4:25-26]
Jesus is the One, the only one God had in mind, the only one out of all humans that ever existed, that can restore God’s world and rescue God’s people.
This is why the bible makes the bold claim that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [Philippians 2:10-11]

Not just Jews, not just Christians, not just humans… even the angels, even the whole universe!
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. [Colossians 1:15-17]
Everything and everyone is dependent on the incarnate Son (Word) of God, born in Bethlehem.
In this sin-messed world where we are blind and lost and desperate, He comes to open the way, to show the way, and to lead the way back to God and the full life He created us for.
Every person in the world – even the very creation – is groaning inwardly for what Jesus came to bring.
The only problem is that we do not realize it, we foolishly think we can attain it ourselves.

To the person looking for peace, or comfort, or direction, or victory, or justice, or forgiveness…
Jesus says, “I who speak to you am he” – the source of living water, of what our souls long for!

PRAYER:
Lord, there is no one else, nothing else, that can meet my deepest need. You are God’s ultimate gift, God’s ultimate answer. Help me to stop looking elsewhere and come to You!
