PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 14
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Jesus withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place.” (Matthew 14:13)
Jesus was related to John, since John’s mother was related to Mary (Luke 1:36).
Taking time to be alone was no doubt time for personal grief and renewal.
Yet when the crowds show up, he does not avoid them.
“He had compassion on them and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:14)
Jesus does not forget his mission, even when things get hard.
He grieves, but he stays on task, staying true to God’s call in his life.
What happened to John was tragic and may have seemed like a setback.
But Jesus continues to do what God called him to do – to show compassion.
The church today faces its own challenges and setbacks.
Like Jesus we can grieve, and renew our strength in time alone with God.
But our mission continues; we are called to compassion NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.
“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” (Philippians 1:27)
I find this message helpful for me, as I face my own challenge and setback.
I need to spend time alone with Jesus, and keep on showing compassion, whatever happens!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, sometimes I want to hide or quit. You did not quit, even when it got hard. Renew my strength in you, that I may persevere in your mission of compassion… whatever happens.
