PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 12:1-21
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” (Matthew 12:34)
What is in our heart will show itself in our words and actions.
If we our hearts are self-centred, our words will be self-serving.
If our hearts are negative, our words and actions will be too.
I am not sure why speaking against the Spirit is unforgiveable.
But I wonder if it has to do with our spirit rejecting God’s Spirit.
Our inner spirit is our heart, where God is working to heal us.
If we reject the work of God’s Spirit in our hearts, what hope is left.
The work of the Spirit in us is the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
If we are open to God’s Spirit in us, our words and actions will show it.
What is the spirit (sound, character) of our words?
Do your words sound loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, etc.?
Or do they sound negative, critical, complaining, selfish, mean, hurtful?
Our words are like a thermometer for my life.
Pay attention to how you speak today – what spirit are they full of?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, may the spirit of my words be your Spirit. May my heart overflow with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
