PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 4
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written…'” (Matthew 4:10)
When I think of Satan, I don’t think of a devil-like creature or a serpent.
I imagine a voice in my head, whispering half-truths and lies.
Thoughts are constantly coming into my head, many of them not good.
How do I know if it is Satan, how do I resist Satan’s subtle lies?
While we won’t always get it right, it helps to listen to God’s Voice.
God speaks through creation, through scripture, and through Jesus.
The Spirit helps us to understand what is good and right and true.
The better we know God’s message, the sooner we recognize Satan’s lies.
But beware, even Satan knows how to quote the bible (4:5-6).
Many Christians have been deceived by misquoted, misinterpreted scripture.
Jesus SHOWS us what scripture means, what God’s will is.
Does this thought fit with who Jesus is, as revealed in the Bible?
Does that idea look like how Jesus lived out the will of God?
Resist Satan by immersing yourself in what is written, and seen in Jesus!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me to take every thought captive to you, and to filter each one through the message of Scripture. Help me to refuse Satan, and to listen to you!
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.
Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.
At once they left their nets and followed him.
