Jesus wants to be baptized by us?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 3

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?.” (Matthew 3:15)
To be baptized is to be covered by, immersed in, and filled with God’s love.
God’s presence and power claiming and renewing me as his child.
I need to be baptized by God’s love, I long to experience it!
I wonder like John, why would Jesus need to be baptized?
Jesus explains that it is the right thing to do for him as a human.
But I also think it is what God as God wants from us as well.
God wants to be covered by, immersed in, and filled with our love.
God wants our presence and power – heart, soul, mind and strength.
God and Jesus do not need this to survive like we do.
But they do need it from us because love demands a response.
Just as a conversation requires two voices, or dance two dancers.
Sure, God could talk to himself, and dance alone – but he comes to me.
God in Jesus comes to us to be loved by us, to enjoy our love.
Will I give my heart to the one who gives his heart to me?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I’ve never thought of baptism this way before. May our relationship of love be two directional. May I join the conversation, and dance with you as your loved and loving partner.
