Who is your teacher?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 20:41-47

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Beware of the teachers of the law.” (Luke 20:46)
I need to take these words to heart, as ‘a teacher of the law’.
I devote my time to studying and teaching scripture.
I speak with authority, quote Greek and Hebrew to teach what God is saying.
In this reading, Jesus challenges this authority and teaching.
Teachers can put on a good show, but can also be guilty of harming people.
Do I make people feel guilty, or suggest they are going against God?
Do I use my knowledge to get people to believe and do what I say?
I do NOT want to be like this, but there is always the risk.
I sense Jesus cautioning me to be very careful how I teach, what I say.
My job is to help people find and follow Jesus – he is their teacher!
“You have one Teacher, and you are all brothers and sisters (Matthew 23:8).
The Spirit of Jesus is their ‘teacher’, they must listen to him!
I am not their counselor but a fellow student; together we listen to Jesus!
I can help them, but they can help me too as we together we learn from Jesus.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for this warning about how I teach. Humble me among my brothers and sisters, as we together listen and learn from you!

  1. Even though I know that Jesus’ ancestry is from David and therefore I understand that Jesus is a ‘son of David’ and that David knew that God had promised the Messiah would sit on his throne, I find it amazing that David said: “David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” What is amazing to me is that I too can call myself a child or God through Jesus as he is my Lord! Thank you Jesus for making me your son! Help me Lord Jesus to walk in your ways!

  2. Teachers.
I was not teacher of the law but a teacher, serving Him in schools. How I came across to my students sharing His Word in their learning – was always on my mind. I didn’t have all the answers but with the help of His Spirit to guide me isought the best way to teach them so they too would be a kingdom worker serving Him. Joy in learning together. Having their interests at heart. Sharing His way in all we did together. Being one of them as we studied and learned together. Looking for ways to increase their desire to learn and see how they can be instruments of His peace in their daily living/learning. May all those taught have seen that I too am His servant doing His will, growing in Him each day – learning that all is for Jesus.

    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be

All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into your hands
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into your hands

For it’s only in your will that I am free
For it’s only in your will that I am free
    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be

    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
