Because he says so!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 5:1-11

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5)
Peter has fished all of his life, and is an expert.
They had been out all night, but even their expertise didn’t help.
It seems that Peter knows Jesus enough to respect what he says.
But not enough to remind Jesus that thinks he knows better.
It is not because he agrees with Jesus, only because he respect him.
After the catch of fish, he no longer respects Jesus – he is afraid.
The expert falls to his knees and admits how small and bad he is.
Jesus both humbles and lifts up Peter, and gives him an important job.
Jesus knows life and the world… Jesus is wise.
Like Peter, I have been humbled and lifted up by his wisdom.
I too am called to use what I know, with Jesus’s help, to serve others.
As Jesus leads me, he asks me to do things that may seem foolish to me.
But because he says so, I want to do it; to see what he will do.
When I hesitate or hold, what great catch do I miss out on?
PRAYER
Lord, I sense that you are the expert and I am not. But still I hesitate. I need to listen to see what you can do; help me to let down my nets.

  1. Jesus is amazing! So the fishermen found out: “For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken,”. They would follow Jesus and find out more amazing things. So have I and will i as I continue to follow Jesus. Lord, help me never to lose sight of how amazing you are! I need to listen and follow – always!

  2. Being in tune with our Master.
    Doing what He says.
    With His help I am able to be His instrument of peace.
    If I depend on my own strength and ability, it will be a lost cause. But with Jesus, He makes things happen. He enables. He strengthens. He empowers.
    I need to walk with Him also this day.

    Did we in our own strength confide,
    Our striving would be losing;
    Were not the right Man on our side,
    The Man of God’s own choosing:
    Dost ask who that may be?
    Christ Jesus, it is He;
    Lord Sabaoth His Name,
    From age to age the same,
    And He must win the battle.
