Am I refusing the Spirit of Jesus?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 12:8-12

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” (Luke 12:10)
Why is it OK to speak against Jesus but not against the Spirit?
Is it because this is why the Son of Man came, to be spoken against.
The Son of Man was despised to break the power of sin (Isaiah 53:3).
God uses the humble (despised) Jesus to soften our hearts, to win us back.
Think about Saul (Paul), rejecting Jesus and killing his followers.
He spoke against the Son of Man… until the Spirit changed his heart.
The Spirit helps us to recognize the “spoken against” Jesus as Lord.
“No one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, ‘Jesus be cursed,’ and no one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:3)
The Spirit of Jesus is our only hope for knowing who Jesus is.
The Spirit is working to open our hearts to Jesus, so that we accept him.
But what if I reject what the Spirit is saying to me?
Am I open the Spirit’s witness to Jesus, or am I refusing to listen?
PRAYER
Lord, help me by your Spirit to say ‘Jesus is Lord’… not only with my mouth, but with my life.

  1. “And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” Blaspheming has to do with God who is triune: Father, Son and HS. Jesus came to save us from our sin, even of blaspheming God – it is the HS that urges us to follow Jesus – if we blaspheme the HS and work the HS does within us – we are lost forever – we will not know the Saviour and therefore not the Father either. The HS the last influencer – if we reject the Spirit we end up rejecting everything – we are lost. HS keep at it – keep urging me, don’t give up on me – keep me faithful in listening for your guiding counsel!

  2. Thank You Lord for the gift of Your Spirit.
    He leads me and guides me in my daily living and gives me the words that I need to speak. He is my encourager. Continue to teach me in my daily living for Jesus.

    1 Spirit of God, who dwells within my heart,
    wean it from sin, through all its pulses move.
    Stoop to my weakness, mighty as you are,
    and make me love you as I ought to love.
    2 I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
    no sudden rending of the veil of clay,
    no angel visitant, no opening skies;
    but take the dimness of my soul away.
    3 Did you not bid us love you, God and King,
    love you with all our heart and strength and mind?
    I see the cross— there teach my heart to cling.
    O let me seek you and O let me find!
    4 Teach me to feel that you are always nigh;
    teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,
    to check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
    teach me the patience of unceasing prayer.
    5 Teach me to love you as your angels love,
    one holy passion filling all my frame:
    the fullness of the heaven-descended Dove;
    my heart an altar, and your love the flame.
