The greatest miracle!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 1:34-38

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“How will this be, since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34)
A virgin birth… impossible, a silly myth?
I do not try to argue with people on this; I have no issue with it.
When you believe in God, a whole new world of possibilities opens up.
Personally I see God’s love as a greater miracle than the virgin birth.
I do not believe in Jesus because of the miracles, but because of his message.
Jesus makes me want to believe in God, in love and goodness, in a better world.
Jesus impregnates this world – and me – with faith, hope and love!
How will this be, since our world is such a screwed-up mess?
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
“God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20)
Jesus makes me confident that a better world is possible.
A God that is willing to be humbled in a manger and on a cross!
A God that loves us despite all our foolish and cruel ways.
This is the impossible miracle for me… and Jesus convinces me it is true!
PRAYER
Lord, wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, that you should love us despite how messed up we are. This is the greatest miracle in the world to me!

  1. “the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God.” This is so important to our faith. In the first verse of our Bible we read “…and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Creation has it’s origins in God the Creator – Father God. Now, Mary is hovered over by the same spirit so that she conceives Jesus making Jesus both son of man and son of God. The connection between Creator and created is close – broken when the created decided to ignore God’s will and go on our own – restored with Jesus who faithfully carried out God’s will. Believing is the connection for us! Being connected we too receive the HS so that we too may be guided and empowered to do God’s will.

  2. God uses His people His wonders to perform. We can look at many stories in His Word, but in the reading today we hear of two – Elizabeth and Mary. Both were the Lord’s servant without question. Instruments of His peace so that His wonders would happen – Emmanuel. Good News. As He used Noah to save the world He continues to use others to save the people from their sin and set them on the right path of living for Jesus. What a Saviour! Help me also be Your servant true.

Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too

We are pilgrims on the journey
We are travellers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load

I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through

Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too
