strong or weak?

There were two chapters assigned for today. I’ve separated them into two reflections…

SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 13
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you we will be alive with him and will have God’s power. [2 Corinthians 13:4]
Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” [John 20:21-23]

Crucified in weakness, now alive and present with life and power!
Not only does Jesus have new life and power in Him, by giving His Spirit to us, we also have new life and power.

This power does not make us controlling, oppressive or cruel; we still follow Jesus in His example of love, humility, meekness, mercy.
But neither does this meekness make us weak; Paul comes in humility but he speaks boldly with the authority of Jesus.
We have the peace of Jesus, as well as the power of Jesus; we are commissioned to declare the forgiveness of God.
People cannot hear of God’s mercy unless we speak of it.
Paul has witnessed to God’s justice and mercy, and the opportunity for the Corinthians to repent and receive His mercy.
The problem is not that Paul has refused to forgive them; no, they have resisted receiving it.
The problem in Corinth was that they were lax on sin, they were tolerating immorality and loose living.
Paul doesn’t want to have to rebuke them in stern love, but he will if he has to; this is a part of the authority the Lord has given to us.

But when we warn or rebuke, let it flow from deep love and deep humility, with an overriding determination to build up and not tear down.
We know from experience that being rebuked is painful; therefore let us be sensitive and sympathetic when it comes to challenging a fellow believer.
Yes, we have authority and responsibility to hold one another accountable, but it must be done in the Spirit of Jesus, with meek and gentle firmness.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to be sure of my own humility and grace before I speak to someone else about a growth area.
