PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 53
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” (Psalm 53:1)
This psalm is speaking against those who pretend to be God themselves.
They do what they want, with cruelty and without care, and with no fear of judgment.
They do not seek or call on God because they see themselves as God.
I have known people who did not believe in God.
But they did not strike me as corrupt and vile, like this psalm suggests.
In fact, it was because they believed in goodness that they struggled with God.
They reject the God of religions that are corrupt and devour people like bread.
This Psalm is not simply about atheism, but about cruel and wicked Godlessness.
To act as a law to oneself, to foolishly expect that no one will hold you accountable.
It is folly to think that we are superior, or supreme, or unaccountable.
It is folly to arrogantly crush the weak or callously disregard justice and mercy.
The day will come when such tyrants and abusers will be put to shame and scattered (53:5).
On that day the victims of these Godless pretenders will rejoice and be glad.
Because they will experience being under a God that is truly good, just and loving!
PRAYER
Lord, when – not if – you bring an end to cruelty and abuse, and dethrone the arrogant and callous Godless pretenders, your children will rejoice and be glad.
“to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.”
I don’t understand on my own. My own thinking can lead me astray – or so can my sensuality and emotions. If I simply say there is no God and therefore, I am all that there is – then I have no sense and I am a fool. I’m on my own. But, by God’s grace, I came to understand that yes God is real and yes He does care about what I do and what i think. I understand that I would be lost without Jesus and especially his gift to me of the HS. Now I understand and I live – and I desire to seek Him more fully each day! Help me to lead others to understand as well so that they might seek you!
There are many leaders today who do what is right in their own eyes. These bring destruction to the land caring only for their personal gain. Mankind was created to serve the King, but many have made themselves king, telling themselves that they are in control. Praise the Lord for those who remain faithful to Him. One day the evil doers will come to nothing. God will restore and is restoring His creation and He is victorious. Our strength lies in the Lord God Who created all things and He will gather His own and His people will rejoice and be glad. My God reigns.
Our God reigns, our God reigns, our God reigns,
our God reigns, our God reigns!
