PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Mark 4:21-25
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“With the measure you use, it will be measured to you — and even more.” (Mark 4:24)
Jesus is calling me to consider this carefully; what does this thought mean?
If I measure out goodness abundantly, I will receive it abundantly.
If I measure out negativity excessively, I will receive it excessively.
If I am gracious to others, I will be graced even more.
If I am critical toward others, they will be critical in return.
Generosity of goodness and love is being encouraged here.
Such a person will shine like a light, on a stand to be seen by others.
But it is whatever is within me that will shine – goodness, or badness.
So consider carefully what my mouth and hands are measuring out.
Because this is what I will receive in return, even more.
This is a simple formula, but it has huge implications for how I live everyday.
As I relate to my family and neighbours, in my workplace or classroom.
I am filling the world with something, and I will get more of that something as a result.
But is that something that I want more of – is it the gracious goodness of God?
PRAYER
Lord, I was made to love God and others. May this be what shines through me, what is disclosed in me. May this be what I generously measure out, and may I also experience your generous return!
Walking in the ‘light of Jesus’ means that I shine the light – not hide it and keep it to myself: “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.” I have been entrusted with true light in a dark world. Help me Lord Jesus to be effective – to spread that light to others! Thank you for opportunities even when vacationing – Lord help me to shine the light of your grace, everywhere I go!
Light Shine.
The children’s song I am reminded of – ‘This little light of mine.’ Who we are will shine to those around us who we meet and greet. The love of God needs to shine through me. Jesus is the Light of the world and His Light in me needs to be seen in what I say and do – in my words and deeds.
1. The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Refrain:
Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me;
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!
2. No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide!
The Light of the world is Jesus!
3. Ye dwellers in darkness with sin-blinded eyes,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Go, wash at His bidding, and light will arise;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
4. No need of the sunlight in Heaven we’re told;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
