PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Exodus 39-40
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. (Exodus 40:34)
God is with Moses and the people, and they are to listen to and follow God.
“During all their travels” (40:38), they followed God’s glorious presence.
As Jesus followers, we do not follow a tent, nor do we follow a book.
We follow Jesus, who is the living embodiment of God’s presence and will.
Like this tabernacle, Jesus was also filled with God’s glory (Matthew 17:1-8).
Moses and Elijah, representing the law and the prophets, were with Jesus too.
Peter wants to build three ‘tabernacles’ (Matthew 17:4, actual word) to honour all three.
But as new covenant believers, we are to follow the lead of Jesus, not Moses or Elijah.
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5).
Jesus is the presence, or temple, of ‘God with us’, he is filled with the Spirit of glory.
Because we are with Jesus, his Spirit fills us too, and guides us in all our travels.
Reading about Moses’s tabernacle is interesting; reading about Jesus is life-transforming.
Bask in the glory of his loving presence, and go where he leads you to go!
Meet with the Lord in the tabernacle of your heart; he will lead you into his promised rest!
PRAYER
Lord, lead me like this tabernacle led the people of Israel. Help me to know where to go, what to say, and how to live in the glow of your love. Help me to follow!
All the detail as recorded here – and its beauty laden with meaning! I delight in it. And then it was all done and the tabernacle is set up according to all the instructions Moses had been given. And then the most important thing happens – exactly for what it was meant for: “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.” That portable temple could go with the people and it physically symbolized that their God is amongst them. Jesus gave us a gift of presence as well – the HS. He fills us and blesses us as we travel down life’s pathway! I am not alone!
Holy unto the Lord. Doing all what the Lord God had commanded. And the glory of the Lord dwelt among the people. His presence was with the people by the cloud and fire in all their travels. That sign would tell when the people would travel once again – the Lord leading them by the cloud and fire. And He continues to lead His people by His presence if but commune with the Lord. I need to be Spirit led. Daily I need walk and talk in His SonShine.
