The good news feet of Jesus!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Nahum 1

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Look… the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!” (Nahum 1:15)
To see the feet of someone bringing good news is a way of saying, ‘good news is coming!’
Nahum is encouraging the people of Judah who hear the footsteps of Assyria’s army.
Nineveh, the capitol of Assyria, was flexing its muscles in the region.
Violence, forced slavery, torture, rape, cruelty and injustice were spreading.
Nahum is warning Nineveh, but also encouraging those being crushed by Nineveh.
Through all the trodding and stomping of Nineveh, can you hear other footsteps?
Through all the evil that is happening, can you hear strains of good news and peace?
God is powerful and strong, but his coming is not with the sound of armies.
A wilderness messenger, a humble carpenter, a homeless rabbi… the feet of peace.
Nahum is predicting the downfall of Nineveh, which represents all evil in the world.
Jesus is the fulfillment of this promise, the feet of one bringing good news.
He is crushed by the armies, but not beaten; instead he overcomes evil with peace.
Don’t be fooled by the stomping sound of evil, look to the dusty feet of Jesus.
The serpent may bite his heel, but the Jesus will crush its head (Genesis 3:15).
PRAYER
Lord, it is hard to ignore the stomping feet of injustice, greed, lust, cruelty and death. Help me to stay focused on your good news feet, and walk with you on your path of peace.

  1. Couldn’t help but pick out these words: “the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!” What a picture of Jesus. Sometimes you need the darkness around you to appreciate the light! Like the shepherds dazzled by the angel and angels! We need the good news and help us to tell it with passion and hopefulness – to bring the light! Thank you Lord for coming and the hope of your coming again or being called to you before that! Help me to live and serve as a bearer of light!!

  2. The Lord is good.
    Although the world has gone its own way, the Lord is still in charge. Stay faithful and trust the Lord at His Word. He is with His people. Emmanuel. God is with us. He is our Refuge at all times. Trust Him.

    1 God is our refuge and our strength,
    in straits a present aid;
    therefore, although the earth remove,
    we will not be afraid:

    2 Though hills amidst the seas be cast;
    though waters roaring make,
    and troubled be; yea, though the hills
    by swelling seas do shake.

    3 A river is, whose streams make glad
    the city of our God;
    the holy place, wherein the Lord
    most high hath his abode.

    4 God in the midst of her doth dwell;
    nothing shall her remove:
    The Lord to her an helper will,
    and that right early, prove.
