PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 138
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Before the “gods” I will sing your praise.” (Psalm 138:1)
If there is only one God, who are these “gods”?
In ancient cultures, the rulers of the lands were considered “gods”.
They were either the “gods” themselves, or sons of the “gods”.
But according to Psalm 82, God is above all the “gods”.
David is considering his position among the other nations.
As a ruler, he knows he is not a “god” but dependent on God.
He refuses to bow to the claims of the other rulers/nations.
God is still God, even if no one else accepts it.
And God is not on the side of the powerful, but the lowly (138:6).
Who are the “gods” or “stars” of our day, the powerful ones?
Do we fall for their ‘claim to fame’, or do we serve the real God.
Our world may seem to be in the hands of a few.
But it is not; our world is in the hands of the only true God.
And this God supports the lowly, not the lofty… who do we support?
PRAYER
Lord, you are in charge, and you are good. Your absolute power did not corrupt you, like it does us. Make us ‘great’ like you, as we wash the feet of others around us.
I agree with David – our God is amazing – the sovereign creator of all the universe – which is mindblowing bigger and more awesome as more tools are used – this God still cares and listens to my needs – and even more so gives me a way out to be vindicated from my sin through Jesus! Jesus invited me to call God – Abba- O heavenly Father, help me to totally trust in you and to revel in your love!!
Emmanuel.
God with us.
May I never forget that He is here and I am always in His presence. I walk in His ‘SonShine’ each day anew. He upholds me.
My prayer is that the leaders of this world also praise Him rather than the works of their own hands. Our world/Your world Lord need to praise You and see Your glory and power and majesty and faithfulness and love. We need to hear Your voice saying, This is the way. Walk in it. May we praise You always.
Everything that, everything that
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
And everything that, everything that
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise him in the morning,
Praise him in the evening,
Praise him when I’m young and when I’m old.
Praise him when I’m laughing,
Praise him when I’m grieving,
Praise him every season of the soul.
If we could see how much you’re worth,
Your power, Your might, Your endless love,
Then surely we would never cease to praise you.
