Praise THIS Lord!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 135

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Our Lord is greater than all gods.” (Psalm 135:5)
There is only one God, but there are many pictures of God.
These pictures (‘gods’) are projections from our minds, ways that we see God.
God warns people against making pictures (idols) because they always fall short.
When this psalm speaks about the Lord, it means the God that cannot be pictured.
God as God actually is, the ultimate truth about God – powerful, good, just, merciful.
A God that is concerned for the underdog, and opposed to the proud and cruel.
This God is worth praising, worth celebrating, worth thinking about.
But if all our ideas about God are pictures, how do we know our ideas are right?
The best way is to look at the picture God Himself made: Jesus Christ.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God.” (Colossians 1:15)
Jesus re-presents God, a living embodiment of justice, mercy, goodness.
He is greater than all other ‘gods’ and ‘lords’, he is worth praising!
He is why I am a Jesus-follower, I want to become like him!
“Those who follow him will be like him.” (Psalm 135:18)
PRAYER
Lord, you are the reason I have hope, that I believe, that I love God. You are the best picture of God there is, and I long to be like you!

  1. My God is an awesome God – HE is sovereign: “The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths.” O Lord, how I sometimes ignore you- minimize you and forget to acknowledge you! Yet you are gracious and forgiving – especially because of Jesus. Sin stood in the way, but Jesus met the demands of the law and set me free- Hallelujah what a saviour! Absolutely nothing stands in the way of my Sovereign God!

  2. All who trust in their false gods will be like them – can’t see; can’t hear; can’t speak. They are like dead men walking. But when you and I praise the Lord our God we cab see, hear, speak and do the word of the Lord. Others need to see Christ in us. They wlll know we are Christians by our love.

    O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
    I give myself to Thee,
    For Thou, in Thy [redemption],*
    Didst give Thyself for me;
    I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
    O Christ, for Thee alone.
