PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 134
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Who minister by night in the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 134:1)
Imagine for a moment that you are on the night crew working at the temple.
No one is there, it is dark and quiet – the whole world is sleeping.
It is just you and the Lord, and the few others on the night shift.
What a great time to pray, to serve, to “minister by night”.
In this quiet time there are no demands on you from others, except to pray.
Use this time to talk to God, to enjoy God’s presence and be strengthened in God.
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
I have found my morning times to be like this, just me and the Lord.
Not everyone is a night or morning person, but do you have your own ‘alone time’?
Jesus urges his followers to go apart from the busyness to be with God.
And he promises that God will be there, and will bless them “from Zion”.
“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6)
Will you join with Jesus and others on the “night shift”, praising God?
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the blessing of being alone with God and you on the night shift. No phone calls, no demands or pressure from others – just the blessing of your presence!
“Lift up your hands in the sanctuary” Love it. Flowers lift up their petals and open up directing their focus upward – in praise to the Creator! Lord, I open up my hands and stretch them out and look upward as well – even though I know you are present everywhere. But the upward focus properly humbles me and makes me stand in awe of your majesty! Lord, even in the small things I do, may I honour you – much like your creation does and it focuses upward for the light. You are my light and my salvation!
