Hope beyond harm?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: John 19:12-16

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The Lord will keep you from all harm.” (Psalm 121:7)
I always feel hesitation as I read this Psalm.
What happens when we do slip, what happens when we do experience harm?
How does this Psalm work for the people of Ukraine?
Someone shared in church how God saved them from a terrible head-on collision.
But someone was there whose husband died in a terrible head-on collision.
So how did ‘keeping from all harm’ work for them?
In one sense these words are NOT true, so in what sense ARE they true?
In an ultimate sense, the enemy will NOT be able to beat us completely.
He can’t make us slip into destruction nor cause us eternal harm.
We live in a sin-cursed world, and the enemy is looking to take us down.
The psalmist knew and experienced this too, but still they had hope.
Despite what is happening, keep looking up to God… God will not let evil win.
That woman’s husband was not defeated by the enemy, nor harmed beyond hope.
Neither will we be, for our hope is in the Lord!
PRAYER
Lord, the enemy wants me to think that he is winning, and that my slipping and suffering are proof of that. Help me to lift up my eyes to you and to trust that you will save me from the enemy’s schemes.

  1. Ps 121: “The Lord will keep you from all harm” I am so grateful to have experienced this in my life! The Lord has been faithful – I just think of the many times it came so close – but He spared me. It drives me to live for Him – even though I am still anxious at times – but Lord I’m learning to trust you more and more! Help me to trust you in the fall/winter of my life as faculties dim and abilities waver. I need your strength and your spirit more and more! You kept me from harm in the past, are doing it today and I know you will in the future as well – even though I might be physically harmed but not eternally! PTL!

  2. Nowhere am I secure unless I place my hand in the hand of the Lord. He is the Creator of all. He watches over me. In all situations He is my foothold. His presence is on me at all times. I need to keep my eyes focused upon Him as He continues to lead me and guide me along the Way walking in His SonShine.

    O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free.
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
    Look full in His wonderful face,
    And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
    In the light of His glory and grace.

    Through death into life everlasting
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
    O’er us sin no more hath dominion
    For more than conqu’rors we are!
    3
    His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
    Believe Him and all will be well;
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!
