PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: John 6:66-71
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68)
I can relate to the part about disciples struggling with hard parts in Jesus’s message.
There are things Jesus says that make me uncomfortable, or that are too hard.
I will be the first to admit I do not and cannot live up to what Jesus said and did.
And yet I do not want to leave Jesus… why is that?
Like Peter, I am curious to know what the alternative is?
What other life message names the mess in us, but also offers hope beyond it all.
For me there is deep wisdom in the words and way of Jesus, that just makes sense.
A God that hates sin, yet loves us enough to be humbled, suffer and die, to help us?
Is the way of pursuing pleasure, money, sex or drugs and alcohol better than Jesus?
Does being successful, popular, rich, powerful fill the void within the soul?
Many people have left Jesus, but what is the life they have chosen instead?
Maybe it works for them, but I find the message of Jesus hope and life-giving.
Again, I admit that I do not and cannot live up to what Jesus said and did.
But I cannot leave Jesus… because he gives me the grace, hope and help that I need!
PRAYER
Lord, I see people going to others for life, and it does not look better to me. As challenging as following you is, it is still better than the alternatives!
“To whom shall we go?” Lord thank you for the direction only you provide, the rest that only you can give, and everything we need! Help us remember your promises with grateful hearts.
The disciples answered Jesus and said to whom shall we go? And they replied: “We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God” – that resonates with me as I too have come to believe – that faith nugget has been placed inside me and I trust that Jesus is alive and his spirit guides me. Where and to whom else cold I go? No one – only Jesus.
Many disciples np longer walked with Him. Yet to be a disciple is to follow the Master and be in His presence always – to be like Him. And He has given His Spirit so that I can follow. He is the Source of life and only through Him am I alive, alive forevermore. There is no other Way. Jesus is the answer.
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
