The dawn of goodness!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 112

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Even in darkness light dawns for the upright.” (Psalm 112:4)
I am trying to figure out how the message of this psalm is true.
It makes it sounds as if life is good for those who are good.
Never be shaken, no fear of bad news, wealth, riches and good will come to them!
So where have we seen this happen; not even Jesus, nor Job, experienced this?
In our fallen, messed up world, this is not how life is experienced here.
Maybe Adam and Eve could have sang this before they sinned, but not us!
And yet therein lies our hope: God is working to make things ‘very good’ again.
Through this mess, we hope for and live for goodness, because we know it is right.
Even when life gets dark, we are confident that one day things will be right.
Jesus enters the darkness, trusts God, lives for goodness and endures evil for us.
He is “lifted high in honour” (v.9) on the third day with the dawning of the sun.
He is the upright Adam that establishes us, so that we will never be shaken.
Right now, life does not work this way but in the end we will rise up in triumph.
But the longings of those who reject God’s goodness “will come to nothing!” (v.10)
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for making the hope of this psalm true, even if it not how we currently experience life. Help me to live towards goodness until your goodness rises with the dawn of the last day!

  1. “Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands”. Fear – sounds like I should be scared of the Lord – and yes if I think that when I displease him – but I’ve come to know the Lord as a Heavenly Father. Commands – sounds so rule bound – and that I should delight in these rules. Yes, as a way of obedience – but now more as a way of living – having the HS guide and nudge me in the right path – then I delight in pleasing my God. I live in gratitude and in the grace of God – that I may trust (fear) him more fully each day! O Lord draw me closer that I might delight to walk in your ways and be a blessing to others!

  2. ‘Light dawns in the darkness.’
    The Kingdom is here in part. Blessed are those who fear the Lord and work in that Kingdom showing the Light of Christ in their doing – living for Jesus. My journey of learning can be in joy for the joy of the Lord God is my strength. Keep my eyes on Jesus, trusting the Lord to bring it all to fruition. I am His and He is mine and His banner over me is love.

    O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free.

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
    Look full in His wonderful face,
    And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
    In the light of His glory and grace.
    2
    Through death into life everlasting
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
    O’er us sin no more hath dominion
    For more than conqu’rors we are!
    3
    His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
    Believe Him and all will be well;
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!
