Spirit-filled words of Jesus!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: John 6:60-65

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The words I have spoken to you, they are full of the Spirit and life.” (John 6:63)
The words of Jesus are not always easy to understand.
Many times for myself I have to ponder them for a while.
Sometimes I find their meaning, sometimes I’m not so sure.
But every time I come back to them, I find something more.
The words of Jesus are Spirit-empowered, life-giving words.
The Spirit works through them, and breathes life into the listener.
It was not just about bread, or eating flesh, that Jesus spoke of.
He speaks to our hearts, he pays attention to what lives within us.
He challenges, he convicts, he opens eyes, he draws back to God.
I think back to when God’s Spirit breathed life into Adam (Genesis 2:7).
Every time I listen to Jesus, I feel that same Spirit breathing into me.
Feeding me with love, joy, peace, hope, strength – Spirit and life!
It makes me wonder why some christians don’t ‘eat’ the words of Jesus.
Spend time with Jesus, ask him to feed you his Spirit and life!
PRAYER
Lord, breathe on me breath of God, fill me with life anew, that I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.

  1. “The Spirit gives life” – Why am I blest with the gift of the Spirit and others do not? There are people I pray for in the hope that they too may receive the spirit – and when they do I rejoice! Even believing is not an act without the Father’s blessing: “no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them”. That is a hard teaching. We ask what about others – they are good people – shouldn’t they be saved. Sure they should and maybe they are – what do I know – and it is not up to me but the Father. That is the best place for the determining to be. I am called and my desire is to follow – that too is God given – I’m grateful that God did not give up on me- that the Spirit continues to fellowship with me! What would life be without the Spirit – especially in the face of death and all kinds of misery!

  2. Jesus offers His presence through His Spirit to open my eyes so that I might grow in Him. That is life giving. That also shows who is in charge. I need to submit to His authority. His Word has life eternal. I need to surrender all so that He is the Captain of my life. Jesus Saviour pilot me.

    Jesus, Savior, pilot me
    Over life’s tempestuous sea;
    Unknown waves before me roll,
    Hiding rock and treach’rous shoal;
    Chart and compass come from Thee;
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

    As a mother stills her child,
    Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
    Boist’rous waves obey Thy will
    When Thou say’st to them, “Be still.”
    Wondrous Sov’reign of the sea,
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

    Though death’s valley I may pass,
    Still Thy grace will fear surpass;
    In Thy presence I will rest,
    And, while leaning on Thy breast,
    I will hear Thee say to me,
    “Fear not, I will pilot thee.”
