PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: John 6:25-29
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life.” (John 6:27)
All people are seeking (working for) love, joy and peace in one way or another.
Unfortunately we do it in a way that spoils, by striving to GET it ourselves.
We cannot GET love, joy and peace, no matter how hard we try, no matter what we do.
This is because we already have it; by grace we have God’s love, joy and peace.
Jesus shows us that God freely GIVES them to us, and we are free to enjoy them.
But how do we enjoy them… this is where “the work of God” (v.29) comes in.
Jesus calls us not to work to GET love, joy and peace, but to work to GIVE them.
Love, joy and peace are not found by seeking them, they are experienced by giving them.
Jesus explains that it is by loving others, sharing joy and making peace that we enjoy them.
Self-denial, or carrying the cross, is not how we lose them, but how we enjoy them.
People who are loving, joyful and peaceful discover that it comes back to them multiplied.
Do you believe Jesus when he says this, are you accepting what he says as true?
The work of God is to believe Jesus, and spread his freely given love, joy and peace.
Embrace God’s freely given love, joy and peace; experience them by giving them away!
PRAYER
Lord, working to get love, joy and peace soon spoils. But working to give love, joy and peace are soul-satisfying and life-giving. I welcome your love, joy and peace, and choose to give it away!
“believe in the one he has sent.” Jesus says that is my work. Believing is more then just knowing – it means practicing that is an outcome of believing – the fruit. Only by believing do I bear fruit that lasts – will I be able to make any impact for the kingdom of God. Believing is the basis – the foundation. That is then my work. Lord, help me overcome my moments of neglect and unbelief – I shouldn’t be amazed that you still love and chose to work through me – but I am!
What do I hunger for – physical or spiritual? My life needs to be all for Jesus – doing the will of my Father. Whatever my hands find doing, I need to do it in His name, serving Him willingly. It is He who has blessed me with His love and grace and I need to pass that love on by my daily works. I need to continue to ‘work’ where He has planted me so that others my know and see that I am a servant of the King.
All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
All my being’s ransomed pow’rs;
All my thoughts and words and doings,
All my days and all my hours.
All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
All my days and all my hours.
All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
All my days and all my hours.
2
Let my hands perform His bidding;
Let my feet run in His ways;
Let mine eyes see Jesus only;
Let my lips speak forth His praise.
All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
Let my lips speak forth His praise.
All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
Let my lips speak forth His praise.
