Jesus is my refuge!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 91

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” (Psalm 91:4)
I once heard a pastor use this verse as proof you can’t read the bible literally.
While that is true, the real value of the verse is the devotion it expresses.
The psalmist is saying we can trust the Lord and find protection there.
As a mother hen protects her young with her wings, so the Lord protects us.
This sounds idealistic to us; many believers have had harm overtake them (91:10).
I can’t explain how this works, how we can trust the Lord when bad things do happen.
And yet I do believe it, and find great comfort in trusting the Lord as my shelter.
As a Jesus follower, I trust Jesus as my Lord, YHWH in the flesh coming to help me.
Jesus represent the wings of God wrapping around me, doing what needs to be done.
“How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks
under her wings, and you were not willing.” (Matthew 23:37)

On the cross Jesus reveals his devotion to us, and what he will do to save us.
He longs to do this for everyone, but sadly not everyone is willing to welcome his ‘wings’.
Are you willing to be held by him, to let him take care of your present and future?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, whenever I think about the mess and mayhem of our world, I come back to this: you are my refuge, I choose to rest beneath your wings.

  1. Truly the Lord has been my refuge so many times in my life- when I look back I know I am blessed. He has also granted many years already – I can live under his protective grace – He is my prime security! I don’t count on the securities that I have put in place for my retirement – they could wither away with a crash in the economy! When I look back I see clearly and I know He is my refuge right now and will be for my future whatever happens to me or the ones I love. I put my trust in a faithful God who has reached out to me in Jesus! Thank you HS!

  2. My trust is in the Lord Who is my Refuge and Strength. He will lead me and guide me in the Way I should go for He guards me in all my Ways. At all times I will serve my living God for He is my dwelling place and gives me strength for the day. He is my constant Companion encouraging me along the way.

    All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
    Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
    Jesus doeth all things well,
For I know, whate’er befall me,
    Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see.

    All the way my Savior leads me;
Oh, the fullness of His grace!
Perfect rest to me is promised
    In my Father’s blest embrace.
    When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day,
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way,
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.
