SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 13:1-14
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
1. “In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem” – The people of Judah and Jerusalem were wrongly assuming that they had a special place in God’s heart, and therefore they would not experience suffering or judgment. They assumed the temple kept them safe. This was their foolish pride, and they were wrong!
2. “I bound the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to me… to be my people for my renown and praise and honor” – The reason that God established His covenant with Israel, to show the whole world how good and great God is. We are to be lights and a blessing to the world, to show them Who God is, and how His way is the best way.
3. “Including the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets and all those living in Jerusalem” – These ‘holy’ people, who proudly and foolishly thought that their position and important would protect them, wuld discover the hard way that God does not show favoritism.
4. “I will allow no pity or mercy or compassion to keep me from destroying them” – This is how bad things have gotten, how far the people have fallen. This is not a snap decision, but after years and years of warnings, and patiently enduring their terrible sin in the hope that they would repent. Finally, after repeated atempts, God is finally allowing them to experience the wages of their sin. In other words, now its too late.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me not to assume that my position or my work can make me immune from suffering for my sinful choices. My purpose is to be for You renown and praise and honour, help me to live that way!Amen.
