Aug 29 — Psalm 10:1-18

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 10:1-18

OBSERVATION:
David faces head on the troubling question as to why God seems distant, silent, while the wicked seem to prosper and succeed. His faith is being tested through fire, but he affirms God’s goodness despite what He sees. He declares his confidence in God, then appeals to Him for action. This is faith in the trenches, desperate faith.

APPLICATION:
I do not personally experience wickedness of this kind, but people in Darfur are (and elsewhere). As a brother to those who suffer, I can pray this, crying out desperately, hopefully, on their behalf. I feel compelled to enter into other peoples’ suffering, and to weep and hope with them. In actual fact, I am more like an ostrich, burying my head, averting my eyes.

PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for running away, for cloaking my faith in cushions. Break my heart with the things that break Your heart. Help me to trust You in the trenches. Amen.

  1. When I look at the wrongs in the world, I at ask at times where God is in all of this. There are so many who live a life without God and so their own power is their success and these people delight in their own schemes. The power of darkness motivates those who live without God because the prince of darkness is their Lord.

But I serve a risen Saviour and as He promised, He will crush the oppressor. As my Lord is the Helper of those oppressed, I too must never say Well this is Haiti and that is the way it is. I must also live in such a way that I reflect the light of Christ within me. As I have the Hope of Christ in me, I need to share that Hope with all – the fatherless, the oppressed. Help me Lord to break out of my secure walls and give me the eyes to see how I may be Your voice and hand to those who are afficted each and every day. May I never become hardened in heart.

open the eyes of my heart Lord
open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

to see You high and lifted up
shining it the light of your glory
Lord, pour out Your power and love
as we sing Holy, Holy, Holy

You are high and lifted up
and You’re shining in the light of Your glory
Lord, pour out Your power and love
as we sing Holy, Holy, Holy
