SCRIPTURE: Psalm 133
OBSERVATION:
David knew both the blessing of harmony and the pain of division. His own family was not living in unity (2 Samuel 13:1,14-15,21-22). David recalls the ordination oil dripping down gently over the 12 stones of the priestly breastplate as a symbol of the Spirit bathing God’s people in love and unity. Or the gentle dew that refreshes Mt Hermon also refreshing Jerusalem (built on Mt Zion). This unity is good and pleasant, but its opposite is saddening, awful, painful, and the Lord canot bless such a divided fellowship.
APPLICATION:
There are times of amazing unity within the church family, but these make times of division, misunderstanding, accusation all the more painful. As a church we have experienced both. Thankfully the Lord has enabled us to work things out together, to continue to see each other as brothers and sisters in the Lord, and to continue to work together for Him. In one sense, we are an example of how the Lord’s blessing helped us overcome our divisions. There are still differences, but God gives us the grace to relate together in love.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for the miracle of unity despite our differences, and for the way that people so unique and different from each other can still blend together like a symphony, and make beautiful music with You, for You. Increase our unity, and the impact of Your grace through us, that others may know Your blessing too! Amen.
