SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1
OBSERVATION:
Just because something is allowed, doesn’t mean its beneficial or helpful.
Paul is making the case for caring more for the sensitive conscience of unbelievers than for our own rights and freedoms.
The issue is not the food itself (belongs to God, received with thanks), but the attitude of the person who invited you to eat it.
Seek the good of the many, that you may save them, this is how we live for the glory of God.
In everything that you do, do it in a way that makes God look good!
Paul describes his evangelistic passion as the pattern of Jesus, something everyone should imitate.
APPLICATION:
I need to share this same passion as Paul and as Jesus, to do whatever I do to make God look good, and to help all people experience God’s goodness.
To be willing to sacrifice my own rights and freedoms for the sake of others.
Are there parallel issues today that are like this?
— If I am with a recovering alcoholic, then it be better for me not to drink alcohol, or to serve it with communion, not to be a stumbling block.
PRAYER:
Lord, You made the ultimate sacrifice in surrendering Yourself to death on the cross for my sake. Help me to imitate Your love for the sake of those who do not yet know You. Amen.
