Saved to do good!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Mark 3:1-6

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil….” (Mark 3:4)
Do any of God’s laws prohibit doing good for others?
Goodness is God’s original plan, the ‘very good’ of creation restored. (Genesis 1:31)
Jesus saves us SO THAT we can live good lives again; with Him, like Him, for Him!
Consider how many times Paul urges Titus to focus on doing what is good:
— “Set them an example by doing what is good.” (Titus 2:7)
— “A people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (Titus 2:14)
— “To be ready to do whatever is good.” (Titus 3:1)
— “Careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.” (Titus 3:8)
— “To devote themselves to doing what is good.” (Titus 3:14)

As a Jesus follower, I am set free from the curse of the Law.
No longer burdened by guilt and failure, I am free to do whatever good I can.
Not to earn God’s love, but because I am loved, and eager to share that love.
I should learn from the laws of scripture, but I am not bound by them.
How can I bless, serve, share or care? — this is what the laws were pointing to.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to look for ways to do good to others today. May the creation experience a little more goodness today, because of me.

  1. As I continue to see the ‘Sabbath’ as God’s gift – a day without the obligations of work, even providing for the family (no Sabbath manna collections needed) – is it any wonder that Jesus would heal – to free this person from having a useless hand – to one that can do all things that a hand can do! Seeing the Sabbath as freeing and not as an obligation – helps me enjoy the Sabbath more – to connect with a loving God who cares for His people! This man’s hand was enabled now to do good and to do useful work. In the same way I’m freed up – enabled to do good – with the help of the HS!

  2. Lord help me do good, Your good, no matter what. Help me differentiate better between my good and Your good. Help me remember that your mission for us to do good isn’t open to our interpretation of “good work”.

  3. The Sabbath – a day to rest remembering all what the Lord God has done for us. It shows our love for God which overflows to our love for our neighbour. This is also the summary of the law – love God and love neighbour. KNOWING the law of the Lord must bring LOVING the law of the Lord to DOING the law of the Lord each and every day. Free to serve.
