THE STORY OF JESUS: Proverbs 28
“Those who trust in themselves are fools…” (Proverbs 28:26)
Does this verse mean that self-confidence is foolish?
That depends on what we mean by self-confidence.
A self that is confident IN GOD is wise, while confidence IN SELF is not.
On our own our perspective and judgment is limited, biased, self-serving.
Too many people are full of themselves, and their own opinions.
Too many people are blind to their weaknesses, and to their narrow thinking.
How self-aware are you, and how open are you to being challenged or corrected?
“But those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.” (Proverbs 28:26)
Wisdom is an external guide, something that judges us, our perspectives and motives.
It involves honest self-awareness and humility, admitting our biases and weaknesses.
Submitting to wisdom does not make us weak, it makes us wise, and keep us safe.
Jesus followers open themselves to teaching, rebuking, correcting and training.
We trust Jesus’s wisdom and shape our lives according to His Way.
Walking with Jesus, we are saved… and kept safe!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You save me and keep me safe from my sins and weaknesses. Help me to trust in You – not just for eternal salvation, but for safety in my daily life.
Ears are for hearing. Listening.
Which voice do I listen to?
There are but two voices – the good and the evil.
Listen to the voice saying this is the way. Walk in it. Listen to the voice of instruction doing what is right and good and true. He is the Way, the Truth and the Light.
Stay away from evil. Resist. Walk/run away. Continue your walk in His SonShine.
Do good.
Be an instrument of His peace.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is dispair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
