Saying no to excuses

THE STORY OF JESUS: Proverbs 26
“There’s a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets!” (Proverbs 26:13)
This proverb is speaking about sluggards, or lazy people.
Is it only laziness that keeps us from doing what we ought to do?
I know for myself it is more often fear than just laziness.
I do imagine the dangers or difficulties (lions), and they hold me back.
But whether laziness or fear, the end result is the same.
Behind both is Satan, making excuses to not do what God asks.
He enticed Adam and Eve this way, with ‘reasons’ to do what they wanted.
Jesus has called us to do what is hard, even to face fierce lions.
But He has also promised to help us, and to give us success.
I find this verse convicting because of how I make excuses to not do things.
Jesus is sending me as a lamb among wolves, but am I refusing to go?
Satan is scaring me, Jesus is encouraging me – who am I listening to?
What are the fears that I am imagining, that are holding me back?
Will I stand up to them with Jesus, and do what He says, trusting Him?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, there are many little fears that form into excuses in my head. Help me to faith them, and put them in their place under You!

  1. Words.
The words I speak are a blessing or a curse.
Words go to the very core of a person since they come from the heart and go to the heart.
They can not be taken back.
Words I speak via the tongue come from the heart from which are the issues of life.
I need to be truthful in what I say.
I need to mean what I say.
I have to live what I say.
My actions must be an expression of my words.
    Integrity.
    Oneness.
With My words I also need to be a blessing to others.
