THE STORY OF JESUS: Proverbs 24
“If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!” (Proverbs 24:10-11)
The point in this verse is to not stand by and do nothing when someone is in need.
Do something, help those who are dying, speak up for the abused, stand with the bullied.
I found this list of stories of people who refused to help…
These stories are sad… but do I hold back, or act as if it has “nothing to do with me”?
A quote by Martin Niemoller, a pastor in Nazi Germany, is striking:
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.”
Or Edmund Burke: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
The issue is not whether we do everything, but if we do something… or nothing.
As a Jesus follower, I am called to step in to help others with, like and for Jesus.
God made us to be His hands and feet, and He knows if we care enough to help or not.
“If you say, ‘But we knew nothing,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?” (Proverbs 24:12)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I do not need to beat Satan’s lies – You did that for me. All that You ask is that I pursue love and right living to the best of my ability, with Your help. You will take care of the rest!
Saying 1
Open the ears of my heart Lord.
Stop. Look. Listen. In all things I need to remember that God is first. Have Thine own way Lord.
I need to walk this day in His presence – my hand in His hand as He leads and guides me along the way. As my father showed me how to walk in His SonShine, I need to listen to my Father and let Him enlighten the way of my earthly journey.
He is my Teacher. Open my ears Lord.
Each day I need to start my journey with you and at the end of the day talk with You again sharing my travels. And in between I depend upon You to guard and guide my footsteps.
Let me be Your servant Lord.
Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too
We are pilgrims on the journey
We are brothers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load
I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven
We shall find such harmony
Born to all we’ve known together
Of Christ’s love and agony
