THE STORY OF JESUS: 1 Corinthians 9-10
“I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law.” (1 Corinthians 9:21)
Paul uses the law of Moses for guidance, but He submits to Christ’s law.
We are not under the law of Moses, we are under the law of Christ.
That law can be summarized as ‘love God and love people more than self.
“No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.” ((1 Corinthians 10:24)
Paul continues to address the Corinthian’s issues through Jesus.
Jesus did what He did to honour God by blessing and saving others.
This is what ought to drive us too.
How can I bless or benefit others in this situation, not just myself?
Stories from the OT illustrate what happens when we seek our own interests.
Jesus has set us free from the curse of selfish living.
Jesus, by His Spirit, is training us to live for God and others.
Jesus’s teaching and example (the Law of Christ) is what we submit to.
As a Jesus follower, I can learn from the Old Testament teachings.
But in the end, it is Jesus and the Jesus Way that I am bound by, and to!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, Your way is the best way, the only way. Help me by Your Spirit to learn and live Your way, for the glory of God and the benefit of others!
Stepping stone or a stumbling block?
Love God and love neighbour is the summary pf all His commands.
In order to do this I need to live at peace with all mankind – pleasing other in every way seeking their good and not my own. All I do needs to honour Him for all belongs to Him. The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. And I, I belong to Him to serve Him. As a Christ follower may others see Christ living in me.
Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy [redemption],*
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone.
