feedback from Falby

Falby CourtOur church is in the process of relocating.
Not just the location of our Sunday morning services, but our whole ministry focus.
We are looking at this as an opportunity to build a bridge into South Ajax, and in particular the downtown (South Harwood) corridor.
We presented this idea to our community, and they responded with the following feedback.
It was very positive, and an encouragement to the leaders that the Lord is leading us in this direction.

What do you see as positive about this move?

Room is awesome, more intimate and casual
Room – lots!
Great storage, great location
Our church needs a change
Possibility of working with other churches
Good parking, easy access
Good audio visual facility
Yes it has a potential to reach out
Facility, location, growth, ministry opportunities
Reaching a different area
The opportunity to integrate and offer programs to the community
The opportunity to give back (for example)
• After school programs
• A community garden (Town of Ajax Counsellors interested!)
• Maybe rent apartments and sublet them out at affordable rent for individuals on low income
A great physical location
Ministry location in a needy area.
I like the idea of moving to an area where there is so much need.
So many opportunities for community outreach, and it sounds like the school wants to work with us.
Good for VBS, maybe even weekend kids programs – “Rainbows”, Girls and Boys Club
I’m excited!
Change to improve and walk out our faith with others.
It will definitely stretch us as a church.
Commitment is questionable? – by all?
Great acoustics
The center hall leaves a real ‘coming to the sanctuary’ feel.
As mentioned a great population to draw from and we are needing a new vision to create enthusiasm in our congregation.
There is a new excitement today.
People want us here
Potential
The screens were great
Worship area
Foyer potential for coffee area
Location can be seen as in the center of a community
Warmer feel to the worship space
Better storage
Great chance to do children’s and youth programs and local community
Fosters enthusiasm in current members
The facility being at the center of town
Lots of people to reach and easy for people to come and worship
Seems like a community where you can do a lot of good
New opportunities to reach people in the community
A fresh start
Many opportunities to make a difference within the community
It’s a needed change
It’s uncomfortable and takes us out of our comfort zone
It opens up new opportunities
It forces us to rely on the Holy Spirit
More space, more guests
It looks clean
It would give us a fresh start, and reach a new ‘audience’
Feels more inviting when walking in and towards the auditorium
Proximity to those we could serve in some way
Opportunities for new ministry
Big building
Service opportunities
Location, neighbourhood
New opportunities galore!
Density of the people in the area.
Opportunity to work with other churches and ministries.
Change/rejuvenation
Parking
Finally and most importantly – I believe the Holy Spirit is leading us to that area!
Love the foyer for hospitality
Great area outside for gathering in nicer weather
Hospitable custodian
Proximity to ministry center makes a closer connection to church/office
Location among apartment buildings could potentially make it easier for people to come to church

What are some concerns about this move?

Is the space too big and open?
Kids wandering off and unsupervised areas.
Great that Crossroads is talking with churches in the area, but what about other agencies and people in the apartment buildings – if they would be interested or have any concerns.
That we don’t take up the challenge.
That we will do our thing and not what the residents of Falby Court say they need.
Lose members as we move?
Acoustics in the auditorium
You may lose some people
The stairs leading down to the worship space may be a problem for some people
Dark old school
Access to ‘pit’ difficult for some
Stairs could be a problem
I hope that the excitement of a move/change spurs the Crossroad membership and congregation to ‘walk the talk’ – that seemed to be the most prevalent comment at our MISSION/VISION/VALUE meetings
We need to be more involved in our community and live up to our name of being a Community Church

Other Comments?

Great outreach opportunities
I think it’s an exciting new prospect and look forward to see how it turns out.
The lobby would be great for a café -> a place to introduce people to a new way of church
I really like the collaborative opportunities with the other churches
Is the auditorium big enough for our expected expansion?
Can have a different set up of worship.
How great is our God? Bigger than we can imagine. Go for it in His guidance and leading.
Let’s talk to Falby residents on an ongoing basis.
Mini surveys weekly/monthly at least to start.
Close to home, hurray!
I’m thankful for Crossroads leadership’s focus on new ministry opportunities as opposed to new facilities.
Overall a positive move
Over the past several years the head custodian at LBP has made us feel that we’re there to make work for him and that we’re really not welcome.
It’s uncomfortable because they do like the overtime.
I’ve think we’ve been at LBP long enough and a change is as good as a rest.

  1. I am excited for Crossroads! I also personally remember the location well – before we moved on from Ajax, we had explored this school as a possible location. I am and will continue to pray for you that God will use this move as a wonderful opportunity to make you the hands and feet of Jesus in this new place and that you will find that he is already there living and moving ahead of you! Enjoy the ride!
