Our only source of peace!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 19:41-44
“If you had only known on this day what would bring you peace…” (Luke 19:42)
For Jews, peace was not just the absence of war or violence.
Shalom meant peace with God, with humanity, with creation, and with ourselves.
Having lost our connection to God, everything else has unraveled.
God knows what we need to find peace, but do we?
We are driven to find inner peace, yet we struggle to find it.
The things or experiences we turn to let us down, and life only gets worse.
We may fool ourselves for a time, even a long time, but eventually we lose it.
Yesterday our peace was robbed by tragedy in Toronto.
Our peace is robbed, this hits close to home, we are rattled.
There can be no peace until we find peace with God.
Our world is on a collision course with further tragedy and misery.
We need to admit our desperate need, to trust Jesus and to follow Him.
Only Jesus can bring our world ‘shalom’, full peace that lasts!
Yet Jesus weeps, because so many still don’t know what will bring us peace.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, without You and God, we cannot have real peace. Help us to know what will bring us peace, and help us to show others what will bring them peace too!

  1. Jerusalem.
The city of peace? At least is was supposed to be. The city was a reminder that God dwelt among them and He was the Peacemaker. But as I read in the OT this morning, the various leaders of the people went their own way and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.
Do this and live. That’s what the Master said.
    Live and do this!
But the people went after their own way and rejected their Saviour, Deliverer.
Open my eyes Lord that I live for You also this day in the light of Your way.
Living for Jesus – there is no other way.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.
