THE STORY OF JESUS: Isaiah 51-53
“After he has suffered, he will see the light of life.” (Isaiah 53:11)
These words in ch.53 are a very clear prophecy of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
They are in the context of God’s promise of rescue and restoration.
How would the people who heard these words understand them?
God’s servant was going to suffer and die, but He will see life again.
This servants death is punishment for God’s wayward people.
Jesus certainly fits this description of the suffering servant.
This passage also makes clear how the Jesus’ Way works.
It is not through force or wealth that this servant overcomes.
It is through humility, meekness, submission to God’s will.
As Jesus followers, we see this path both predicted and followed.
This path – the Jesus Way – is the only way to see the light of life.
By choosing to follow Jesus, we choose to follow this servant path.
We believe that humility, meekness, submission to God’s will IS THE ONLY WAY.
But we must choose it, not just believe it; not just faith, we must follow it!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, its easier to say I believe it than it is for me to follow it. Thank You for suffering for me weakness and failure. Help me by Your Spirit to take steps in following this difficult path.
Listen.
Hear.
Look and see what the Lord has done.
Dress yourself with His armour.
He is God.
He is the Giver of Life.
He has called His people and given them Life.
He is my Redeemer. I know His name.
My God reigns.
I live because He lives.
He gave His life for mine.
Emmanuel.
How lovely on the mountains are the feet of Him
Who brings good news, good news;
Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness:
Our God reigns, our God reigns!
Refrain
Our God reigns!
Our God reigns!
Our God reigns!
Our God reigns!
He had no stately form, He had no majesty
That we should be drawn to Him.
He was despised and we took no account of Him.
Our God reigns, our God reigns!
Refrain
It was our sin and guilt that bruised and wounded Him.
It was our sin that brought Him down.
When we like sheep had gone astray our Shepherd came
And on His shoulders bore our shame.
Refrain
Meek as a lamb that’s led out to the slaughterhouse,
Dumb as a sheep before its shearer,
His life ran down upon the ground like pouring rain
That we might be born again.
Refrain
Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty;
He is alive, He is alive.
God loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side
Yes we know, He is alive.
